Today, she is green
Green with pains
And green with pride
Longing for the time her pain with be no more
Seeing her as it soon will be
Often times I sit and wonder
How mother always sits and ponders
Her eyes, her stare, are so far
As if she has the whole world to bear.
For the fifty-ninth time I wonder
What is wrong with mother?
My aggrieved home and country
Her pain is mine to bear.
Always, this memory
that I take to the shredder
this memory that, always
ends up in the recycling bin
and recycles itself at whim
Great men she have lost
Great men who have fought
Beyond the life of wrath and horror
Waging for a spec of hope
For a life they so much believe in
Time and again she follows
Sheepishly trusting her shepherds
She has had a quite a number
With tongues unknown and known
They keep killing her vision in disguise of trying to unlock
While they battle to pluck away all her roses.
The voiceless murmur and watch,
Her pocket papers fly and run
While a once great country keep dying on.
